He was presumably stationed and/or hospitalized at or near Le Valdahon in eastern France, where he was buried temporarily after death. Le Valdahon was the site of a key field artillery training school and major medical facilities.

Father: John Kolbas (1858-?), born Austria-Hungary/Czechoslovakia, emigrated ~1889, occupations included Iron Molder and House Carpenter; Mother: Maria [aka Mary] Omavisky Kolbas (1863-1945), born Austia-Hungary/Czechoslovakia, emigrated ~1889, in 1900 Census reported having had 10 children of whom 7 appear to have survived, buried Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, OH; Siblings: John (1885-?); Henry who served in WWI and was honorably discharged on 11/30/1918; George (1890-1965); Thomas (1893-?); Andrew (1896-?; Bertha.
