Demographics: Henry Burt Herrick, a physician and surgeon, appears to have joined the war effort in WWI by offering his medical expertise. On 5/12/1917, he applied for a passport for the stated purpose of performing medical service in hospitals in England and France. He planned to sail on 5/19/1917 from New York aboard the SS Chicago. Myron T. Herrick, a cousin, who was the Ambassador to France from 1912-1914 and a prominent Cleveland lawyer, businessman, politician, and diplomat, wrote a letter of commendation for Dr. Herrick as part of his passport application. Dr. Herrick had graduated from Adelbert College at Western Reserve University in 1888 and from the affiliated Cleveland Medical College in 1891. He was married and had a teenage daughter at the time of his WWI service. Per ancestry.com and an announcement in the New York Times on 4/11/1918, Henry Burt Herrick married Aletta Patterson Horn in June, 1918 in Brest, France, the same month he died. Mrs. Horn was a widow from New York and New Jersey. No divorce records were found for Dr. Henry Burt Herrick or his wife Mary Williams Langley Herrick.
