[On 10/6/1918, the HMS Otranto, carrying 1,025 soldiers and crew, was hit by the HMS Kashmir in a storm near the coast of Scotland and subsequently crashed on the rocks. Approximately 470 soldiers plus crew perished in gruesome circumstances; approximately 500 were rescued by the British destroyer HMS Mounsey. Private Joseph Kish was one of 300 Americans who were buried on the island of Islay, Scotland. The state of Georgia suffered the tragic loss of 130 soldiers, at least one third of whom were from two Georgia counties.]
