Death: February 19, 1919 at age 26; Died of Disease at Le Mans, France; cause of death pneumonia/pulmonary tuberculosis; on 3/8/1919 at 8:30 am, a military mass was held at St. Peter's Church, Superior and E. 17th St., Cleveland, OH, with friends invited; on 10/5/1919 a military mass was held at St. Joseph's Church, Aspinwall Ave., Collinwood, Cleveland, OH at 9 am for Joseph Horstman Stier, Wagoner Supply Co., 331st regiment; friends were invited and "All former members of the supply 331st infantry requested to attend in uniform." 

Burial: Buried 2/21/1919 at Le Mans, France cemetery; remains disinterred 7/20/1920; 9/4/1920 arrival of SS Princess Matoika from Brest, France to Hoboken, New Jersey carrying the "overseas dead," including Joseph Stier #1946703 Wagoner Supp. Co 331st Inf. Remains received at Cleveland, OH 10/2/1920. Burial (date not given) "St. Josephs (Wood)" corner of E. 79th and Woodland; Lot No 153-NE Grave No 1-W-L
