Some of his grandparents from England were living in Cleveland, In his last will and testament dated 5/9/1917, he bequeathed all his assets to his mother and upon her death the balance of the estate to his two siblings and to Gladys Poston of Columbus, OH, noted to be a friend. Friend: Gladys "Gladdie" Poston Pickett (1896-1985) was employed as a public school teacher, married and the mother of one child, and was buried at Union Cemetery, Columbus, OH.
Father: John Barnett Gibbs (1860-1936), born Warrensville, Ohio of English and Irish ancestry, married 1881, occupations Butcher, Farmer and Landowner, Foreman after moving to Lakewood, OH in the 1920s, buried Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH; Mother: Carrie Smith Hughes Gibbs (1872-1948), born Whittlesey, England, emigrated 1881, address noted as "East View," Ohio [see 1910 photo of East View Village, a semi-rural suburb of Cleveland that reached as far east as 140th St. and attracted settlers from eastern and southern Europe], married 1881, buried Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH; Siblings: Brother Earl C. Gibbs (1895-1973), whose son John Allen Gibbs Sr. (1917-2004) was presumably the namesake of Second Lieutenant John Samuel Gibbs, as he was born three weeks after his uncle's death on 11/6/1917; Sister Ilva B.
