Death: October 11, 1918 at Camp Logan, Texas, a WWI training camp in Houston; cause of death Pneumonia. [In 1918, Camp Logan had a widespread outbreak of the 1918 flu pandemic. By September, there were over 600 cases of the flu at the camp, and by October 48 soldiers had died. When Army officials sent the afflicted to local hospitals to protect others at the camp, the disease spread rapidly throughout the Houston community.]
