A February 3, 1983 article in the Amherst News Times contained a remembrance of the 1918 death notice of Julius Blum, in which he was described as "...one of the most popular young men of Amherst." It went on to say, "In January he enlisted in the Ordinance Corps, was stationed at Washington, Baltimore, but recently transferred to Cleveland, where he was a roommate of Carl Schmauch."
