Deployment: Private Charles Bernardo's name was on the ship manifest for deployment on 11/12/1918 from New York, NY aboard SS Aquitania, but his name was crossed out with a note reading: "Transferred B.H. Camp Mills, NY." B.H. may be an abbreviation for base hospital. Private Bernardo may have died prior to deployment. This would also explain why his death on 11/4/1918 was followed by a relatively quick burial on 11/8/1918 in Cleveland, OH, as transport from Europe would have taken much longer.

Additional Information: A John Bernard was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, OH in 1929. It is not known if this was the brother of Private Charles Bernardo. No additional family information was found.
