Additional Information: Corporal Walter Ralph Atlas was an only child. He attended Central High School in Cleveland, OH where he was a member of Le Lycee Francais (French Club), was jokingly predicted to become a specialist in French musical comedies, and was recorded as aspiring to become a Professor. His parents, grandparents and other relatives emigrated from Austria-Hungary to Ohio in the 1870s. His parents married in Cuyahoga County, OH in 1896.

Father: Emanuel Mendel Atlas (1859-1942), born Austria-Hungary of Jewish ancestry, had the equivalent of a 4th grade education, occupation Clothier and Retail Merchant at The Atlas Store, a Dry Goods Store in Glouster, OH, buried Glenville Cemetery, Cleveland, OH alongside his wife and only child Corporal Walter Ralph Atlas; Mother: Annie C. Spero Atlas (1873-1972), born Austria-Hungary of Jewish ancestry, had the equivalent of a 4th grade education, lived to age 99 as did her mother, and was buried at Glenville Cemetery, Cleveland, OH alongside her husband and only child Corporal Walter Ralph Atlas.
