Middle name Wellington came from his maternal grandfather, a musician per 1905 NY Census, whose name was Wellington Spencer.
In 1941, Private Pfitsch's sister Marie Mathos applied for a government-issued unmarked granite headstone for her deceased brother, which was to be provided at government expense.
Father: George Jacob Pfitsch, Sr. (1869-1947), born Germany, occupations Day Laborer, Machinist and Railroad Foreman, remarried Amy Pfitsch; died by suicide (asphyxiation by hanging) at home at age 78, buried Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle, PA; Mother: Nettie Spencer Pfitsch (1869-1933), born Fowlersville, NY, buried in an unmarked grave at Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, OH alongside her son Private George Wellington Pfitsch, Jr.; Siblings: Frances Pfitsch Wollner (1896-1921), who died at age 25 and is buried at Woodland Cemetery in an unmarked grave alongside her mother and brother Private George Wellington Pfitsch, Jr.; Eleanor C.
