Father: William Coffield (1850-1925), born Ireland, emigrated 1880 or 1882, occupation Paver of Streets and Roads, buried Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, OH; Mother: It appears that Anna McAleer Coffield (1856-1932), born Sandusky County, Ohio of Irish ancestry, may have been Sergeant Joseph William Coffield's step-mother based on Census records showing that she had no pregnancies or children. The birth record for this soldier shows his mother to be Rose Coffield. A death record for Rosy Coffield (1852-1899) showed she died at age 47 of heart failure and was to be buried at Calvary Cemetery, but no cemetery record was found. A Mrs. William Coffield [presumably Anna McAleer Coffield] requested passage on the WWI Gold Star Mothers' and Widows' Pilgrimage to visit her son's grave in France, but it is not known if she sailed. Anna McAleer Coffield was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
